How do I continue to follow Jesus?

Following Jesus

'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life' John 3v16

Following Jesus is a daily choice. Each day we can come to Him. He always welcomes us

A beginning....

Choosing to follow Jesus is the beginning.

He promises that he will never leave or forsake us.

Even when we go through tough times, and feel far from God, we can trust His promises.

Community: Being part of a community of Christians - a church, is very important.

Within that community we can worship God, learn more about Him and encourage each other.

A new plant needs to be in good soil to grow.

A hot coal needs to be in a fire, surrounded by other hot coals to stay hot.

Church: Find a good, local church. Go along, explain that you have decided to follow God.

You will be warmly welcomed.

At first, you might try more than one church until you find one you are comfortable at. Once you do - commit to being a part of it.

Receiving the gifts of God

Gifts from God: God has gifts for all of us.

The Bible tells us that having a relationship with God brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

These grow in our character over time.

Life to the full: God wants you to live life to the full, in relationship with Him.

This will include setting you free from things that have caused you or others hurt. Forgiving others for any hurt they have caused you in the past is a very important part of this.

Choices: Following Jesus will include following Him in our choices - to love God and love others.

Holy Spirit: Just as we have a spirit, so does God.

We choose to receive the Holy Spirit - simply by asking God for this. By the Holy Spirit we can know God far better, and live in closer relationship with Him.

Being inspired

Bible: The most important source of inspiration for every Christian is the Bible.

God will speak to you through it, bringing the words to life.

You can use Bible notes or a reading plan to help - there are lots available.

Facebook: There are lots of facebook pages you can 'like', which provide regular inspiration.

This website is linked to one 'FollowingJesustoday'. You can 'like' it at the top of this page.

There are lots of others - Bible pages, pages for churches, people, organisations, etc.

Twitter: There are lots of twitter feeds you can follow - of churches, people & organisations.

Other Christians: It is so good to be in close relationship with other Christians. You can share thoughts, pray together & encourage each other. Ask God for these links, and build them within your church.
